White Stone is inspired by the landscape of Shirasaki Coast in Wakayama Prefecture.
The vivid contrastbetween the deep blue sea and the pure white limestone formations creates a striking and crystalline visual impression.
In this work, subtle layers of color are embedded within the white surfaces to evoke the delicate interplay of light and atmosphere.
Through the application of metal leaf, the rocks acquire a shimmering luminosity that enhances both their material presence and visual tension.
The work is presented in the format of afolding screen, allowing the image to shift according to the viewer’s angle and movement.
As the perspective changes, multiple visual layers emerge, expanding the expressive possibilities of the pictorial space.
