Learning Experience
Shanxi, graduate of Yuncheng Normal University.
A renowned contemporary calligrapher and calligraphy educator, specializing in Chinese semi-cursive and cursive hard-pen calligraphy education. He has served as an advisor to more than ten calligraphy and painting associations, including the Dharma Drum Mountain Chung-Hwa Institute of Buddhist Studies and the Danning Calligraphy and Painting Association.
He has delivered calligraphy lectures at institutions such as the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Taipei, the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall in Taipei, the Taipei Alumni Center of National Cheng Kung University, the Chung-Hwa Changlu Calligraphy Society, the Taipei Nanqing Calligraphy Society, as well as serving as a visiting professor and guest lecturer at Hainan University and Sanya University, and as a specially invited lecturer at the Shaoxing Office of Fine Arts News.
He once served as an attendant to Mr. Yu Youren, President of the Control Yuan of the National Government, and worked as a professional photographer. He is also a direct disciple of Yu Youren.
A collector of over twenty versions of the Thousand Character Classic spanning the Jin, Liang, Tang, Yuan, Ming, Qing, and Republican periods. Founder of the Yu Youren Standard Cursive Script Society of China (1951), and publisher of Yu Youren’s calligraphy works (1964).
He has taught calligraphy for over sixty years, serving as a professor at universities in Taiwan such as National Cheng Kung University and Shih Chien University, and as a visiting professor at institutions including Shandong Normal University, Xi’an Academy of Calligraphy, Xi’an Jiaotong University, Lanzhou Teachers College, Hainan University, and Sanya University. He has also held visiting professorships in countries and regions such as Singapore, Malaysia, Korea, Japan, and the United States.
In 1986, he was invited to deliver calligraphy lectures at the Yu Youren Memorial Hall in Kyoto, Japan, and at Kyoto Teachers College. In 2000, he founded the Ren-style Interpretative Cursive Symbol Calligraphy Research Association under the Shaanxi Provincial Government.
